Teaching in the United States will be a challenging experience. FACES does everything possible to prepare and support visitor teachers. First year teachers attend an orientation session consisting of all-day workshops and meetings. This orientation lasts approximately ten days and is held in July in preparation for the beginning of the school year in August.
We work to ensure that teachers are familiar with basic skills such as curriculum planning and guidelines, effective lesson design, student assessment, and classroom management techniques as well as general education policies and procedures of South Carolina . We guide teachers through the PRAXIS exam, holding study workshops and even greeting them at the test center on exam day.
Furthermore, we prepare the teacher for the experience outside of the classroom by opening bank accounts, obtaining social security numbers, assisting in the purchase of an automobile and helping to locate housing.
FACES makes a deliberate effort to take on all of the bureaucratic and logistical responsibilities that we can in order to ensure that the teacher is able to concentrate on teaching, and so that the host-school district is not forced to take on any added responsibilities.
During the school year, FACES staff will visit the teacher at school, perhaps several times, in order to ensure that the teacher is meeting the goals of the FACES program and performing to the standards of the host-district. We make detailed observations of classroom performance and meet with administrators to assess the teachers' needs. FACES staff is always ready to assist our valued teachers in professional or personal matters. Teachers or schools can call on us at any time. |
